Welcome
Well here it is! The promised EP of space-themed tracks, assembled together as a set--a collection of space-themed works to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing--a tribute to our past accomplishments and an inspiration for our future endeavors to fuel the imagination. It's also a personal tribute to the music of Vangelis and Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" Documentary Series (my early inspiration as a composer).
The title is a reference to the first line of a famous poem, "High Flight" by a WWII Pilot Officer, John Gillespie Magee, Jr., RCAF, September 3, 1941 (1922-1941) that begins, "Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth..." and ends with a line expressing the feeling that he had touched the face of God.
In preparation for this release, I've had my own thoughts on the inner flights of the imagination on which music can carry us, and I composed the following verse (with an additional reference to a line from Shakespeare) that attempts to describe it, as John Gillespie Magee attempted to describe his "religious experience" at 30,000 feet.
Beyond the Surly Bonds, I go,
To sleep, perchance to dream
Of mystical places in between
The reality I know,
Painted with waves of heavenly sound--
A music that reveals eternity,
Where all things lost are found--
A world beyond the one I know,
Where time is never bound.
